Collaboration with Work Programme 4

We are currently collaborating with WP4, who will facilitate the pre-feasibility testing of the app and review evaluation questionnaires. This collaboration provides WP4 an opportunity to explore the contents of the guide to investigate if the preliminary findings from their dataset are reflected in the guide and if some of the questions raised during the analysis being addressed by this couple-management guide app. This partnership is aimed to provide reviews from both researchers and couples who are external to WP6 team.

We have just finished the filming for the app in Sweden and in Manchester. The films are based on interviews from couples living with dementia and are intended to promote recognition and reflection in couples that will be testing the application through the feasibility study.

An update on activities

The lead team based in Sweden has earlier compiled a paper manual through a thorough literature review, qualitative research, scoping review and consultation meetings with couples where one partner has dementia. Since the beginning of the project, the work programme team developed networks of people living with dementia and their spouses/partners in Sweden and set up comparable networks in England. This enabled the work programme to undertake in-depth consultations with people living with dementia and their spouses/partners. During these consultations, it became clear that the translated English version of the guide required further consideration and amendment to be culturally sensitive and transferable. Thus the paper manual underwent major revisions from the original Swedish manual. The researchers based in both the countries worked together to make the manual relevant to both Swedish and English contexts.

A software development manager based at the University of Manchester has been working closely with the research team to develop the app. A prototype and the near final version of the app will be introduced to the couples in on-going advisory/consultation meetings. These consultations will aim to identify and fix bugs in the app prior to the feasibility study phase.
